Esports Mindfulness

Mindfulness in Esports

Mindfulness was originally approached by John Kabat Zinn, a professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, who in the late 1970s developed the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program.
Since then, the Mindfulness technique has been applied in many different fields. It is a practice that practices paying attention to the present, removing past situations or future stresses.

In Esports it can help the gamer to improve their performance, to gain better concentration on the details that are essential to the flow of the game, to become more aware of thoughts, emotions, sensations and how to chart the safest route to victory. Also, maintaining psychological balance, managing stress during competitive periods, and dealing with every situation with an open mind, acceptance and understanding are achieved through Mindfulness and translate into powerful skills for the gamer.

Daily dialogue and breathing exercises combined with other techniques as suggested by the facilitator help to create a balance between gaming and personal life.
With the knowledge of Mindfulness a healthy environment is developed in the Esports world where gamers and coaches turn competition into competition.

The program is conducted remotely either individually or as a group in a small group, with the possibility of full interactivity, two-way questioning and interaction between participants. It is video-recorded in its flow, providing learners with the opportunity to follow along at a time that is convenient for them in case they are absent from one of the courses. The material throughout the training will be in a private group created by the facilitator and will be available from the beginning to one month after the end of the programme, strictly and only for the participants of each training cycle.

The facilitator is Yannis Agopian (MSc in Social sciences of sport & psychology, Bachelor of Sport Management) lecturer in International Sport Management at the University of The Hague. He has working experience in holistic coaching, project coordination, training and coaching of adults and minors.
