John, alongside his activities, is a presenter at the GGA seminar “The role of Mindfulness in Esports”.

– Would you say that the role of an educator in Esports is a difficult one? Tell us more about your field.
The role of an educator definitely has its difficulties and especially in Esports. It is a field that while it has seen tremendous growth in recent years, it continues to be less accepted by the general public and especially in Greece.
The teaching profession not only has difficulties of course but it is a profession that fills me up and gives me a sense of satisfaction especially when I see progress in the people involved and especially in the mental performance part that I deal with.

– Was it always something you always wanted to be involved in this field or was the love born later.
The role of an educator was not something I had in my plans. Having realized the impact that such figures of people (teachers, coaches, mentors) had on my personal and professional development, I developed a feeling of gratitude for all the help I received and through that, a desire to have the same role and impact in someone else’s life.

– Do you think there is an imperative of the times to incorporate Mindfulness into Esports? We live in a time when everything is running at astronomical speeds and we are running to catch up with situations, our routines, our hobbies, our personal lives and our professions. A little Mindfulness doesn’t hurt right? Haha…
Haha definitely doesn’t hurt and especially in this day and age and the pace we live in. The faster the pace of life, the faster the speed at which we receive stimuli and the impact on our ability to maintain attention. Mindfulness should not become the goal or replace much of our lives but is a means by which we can create a balance and a moment of calm in the chaos of our obligations and activities.

– Training and again training even in video games! Why do you think it is important from a young age to educate our audience in Esports, since you specialize in both adult students and minors. Where does it help?
Through my experiences over the last few years I have come to understand that education is not only limited to the knowledge a student receives through theory. This knowledge and especially the processing of this knowledge also helps in the development of the student as an individual and in the further recognition of their character regardless of the course they have taken.
Targeted education regarding Esports can inform the public about the positive and negative aspects of the field.

– Lastly, (and somewhat repetitively) do you think it’s good for once in our lives, even those of us who may play mobile games for a few hours a day… to pay a “visit” to an Esports Mindfulness seminar or is it only for professionals in the field?
The basis of mindfulness has wider applications beyond Esports. Acknowledging the external environment we are in and how it is perceived by our inner world can lead us to a wiser response that is in line with our values and ideals regardless of whether we are in a moment in which we need to perform (Esport competitions) or not.

– Thank you John and we wish you success in your amazing work!
